I am VERY passionate about what we put in our bodies, all of us but for me at this point I feel one of my most important jobs as a mother of a preschooler is to teach him healthy habits NOW, that he will continue throughout his life. If we don’t teach our children to LOVE and CRAVE good for you foods now they will not pick them on their own later.
I shared how we handle snacks at our house so Mom is not always preparing a snack here. My son does snack A LOT, but he also usually eats his meals well. Snacks don’t bother me as long as they are healthy choice. I do limit what he drinks, because even 100% juice and milk choices are not the best choices for all day use and their are A LOT calories and sugar in drinks, even good drinks.
So I thought I would share a what is in his “fridge snack box” this weekend.
So if you have not read this post, I keep this box in the fridge with mom approved snacks for my 5 year old. He is welcome to these snacks as he wants through the day. The orange cups he knows he is only allowed 1 day (for cost purposes) and when there is yogurt or probiotic smoothie drinks he is also only allowed 1 of those a day.
So when I was filling his box up on Friday this is what I had on hand to fill it with. From left to right. Red grapes, he is not a huge grape fan so there are only a few in each bowl. Then a bowl of Pistachios (aka green nuts at our house), nuts are usually in the pantry but he has not been eating many nuts lately and checks the fridge before the pantry so I have been having them both places. Then the last of the strawberries ( I made sure these were on top since they did not have much shelf life left). Orange cups, the bags closest to the front are dice ham left over from This Honey Glazed Ham recipes, I cube up the end that is not spiral cut, and put in the freezer until all the sliced ham is used up then pull it out for snacks and lunch box meals for my son. Then the bags to the right of the box are just air popped pop corn.
