Easter – Why do we celebrate Easter?

Easter is not just about candy, egg hunts, new clothes and family gatherings. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Lots of men died through means of cruxificion but the significance of Jesus dying on the cross was he rose from the dead three days later.

We are all born sinners and should be punished for our sins. Jesus was sent to Earth to fulfill God’s plan and he never once sinned as a human. Through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection he paid the price for our sins and the wrath of God was poured out on him as opposed to us, for those who believe.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.(John 3:16-18 ESV)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26 ESV)

And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. (Mark 16:6 ESV)
