Cooking on Sundays 4

Last year my husband and I decided that we wanted to open our home to our friends and family more often. I decided to invite two other couples over for lunch after church one Sunday. I picked two couples that I knew if I destroyed the meal it would be okay but I was determined to find a way to make a good meal that would be ready when we all walked in the door from church.

My husband and I came up with making pulled pork sandwiches with homemade bbq sauce, hashbrown casserole and salad. For dessert I picked the chocolate cherry cobbler because you can prep it and it only has to bake for a very short time so it could cook while we were eating lunch.

On Saturday my husband made the BBQ sauce you can find here BBQ Sauce, which I must say was delicious. I made the hash brown casserole recipe from here, Slow Cooker Hashbrown Casserole and tried it in the crockpot for the first time and it turned out just as good as if I had done it in the oven. Here is how I cooked them in the crockpot: I put all ingredients in there and turned it on high for 1 1/2 hours and then on low for another 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. We started the pork butt in the crockpot on Saturday so that it would be done for Sunday lunch for the sandwiches and you can find my husband’s recipe for it here Crockpot Pulled Pork Butt. I also chopped up the salad on Saturday and made homemade ranch. I turned the oven on when we got home and once everyone showed up I put the chocolate cherry cobbler from here Chocolate Cherry Cobbler in the oven and it was ready to be served with a scoop of ice cream as soon as we were done with the meal. We really enjoyed the time together with our friends and it was so nice because the kids could play for a bit after eating and we got to relax and talk for a while before everyone went home.
