I LOVE cookbooks I love to READ cookbooks… like a novel. I enjoy reading cookbooks cover to cover. When you read cookbooks you don’t just find recipes to try, but you gain understanding of cooking processes, combinations, what works and what does not work. So once you have read cookbooks you may not follow the recipes step by step but you will have ideas that you can’t wait to try out in your own way.
I am a Kentucky girl by birth and you will be able to tell that in these four cookbooks but they are not only for farm or Kentucky folks.
This book, The Pride of Kentucky does not have beautiful pictures, as a matter of fact most of the pictures that are present they are black and white and old photos at that. But what it does have is recipes, traditions, and stories about the best commodities of the state. So there are recipes, stories, and history about Poultry, blue ribbon beef, fresh produce that is common to the region. It also spotlights catfish, freshwater shrimp, and dairy dishes. This a great resource to find information and recipes for in season foods. This is found in the book ( I actually bought the book after trying this cake at a demo) Sausage Blueberry Breakfast cake with Blue Berry Sauce.
The book Room at the Table, is a collection of recipes and looks at Kentucky bed and breakfasts. I leave this book out, it is beautiful. I think I would like to eat every single recipe spotlighted in this book. It shares a bed and breakfast with you with lots of pictures and history then some of their signature dishes. A LOT of these recipes also include some of Kentucky’s finest ingredients.
I think most people has heard of Pioneer Woman and I really enjoy her recipes. I have tried several, you know I change them all up a bit but she uses food that most people have on hand or can easily get. We have a couple versions of her Chicken Spaghetti here and here.
I enjoy seasonal cooking and I enjoy organic gardening so this book is very interesting to me. While some of the other books I mentioned has lots of steps and process this book is very simple.
