Hobo Packs (cooking in the fire)

Hobo Packs (cooking in the fire)-1

Hobo Packs are a fun treat from my childhood, we used to make them over camp fires and it was always a highlight for me. So at the beginning of summer while our nephew was visiting we introduced them to him and our son. They thought these WERE SO MUCH FUN!!! It is a great summer night family activity even if you don’t camp. We build a big fire in our fire pit (could also do in a grill) and let it burn down. You want the wood to burn down to just coals and hot ashes.

While the fire is burning down everyone gets to make their own packs. Just start with a large piece of heavy duty foil and a  hamburger pattie.  Then Let everyone add their own veggies and seasoning. Below you can see our veggies we added to our packs along with bbq sauce which  is a must at my house.

Once you have all your goodies on the foil fold it up into a packet and then I add another piece of foil around the pack to make sure nothing leaks out. Then place the packs right on the fire turning every 5 minutes for about 20 minutes and enjoy. I Give the open packs to the boys right on the ground and don’t even worry about plates. Then once you have finished eating you can roast marshmallows. This makes for great memories.
